Helping Families Meet Their Basic Needs
Okini means sharing material goods, and many Lakota families share their belongings with others in their community. This sharing ensures that the needs of all Lakota are met while giving gently-used items a second life. In the spirit of okini, One Spirit supports two crucial programs: the Okini Market and the Okini List.

Generosity, or wačáŋtognaka, is one of the seven values of the Lakota people.
There’s a high value placed on sharing not just one’s possessions but also one’s time and emotions with family, friends, and the wider community. Giving to others without expecting anything in return can make you happier. This high value on generosity also leads us to another Lakota word, okini.
Okini Market
The Okini Market provides a community market for meeting the needs of all on the reservation. People with gently used items can drop them off, and those who need household goods can buy them for a reduced cost.
You can support the Okini Market is to contact us to donate your own gently used items. These donations will help alleviate the conditions of poverty for those who live on the reservation, strengthen the Lakota people and their communities, and support the Okini Market. Many items are needed, including clothes, towels, blankets, and kitchen supplies.

We are always accepting new or gently used donations to distribute to people in need on the reservation. If you would like to send a package of donation items, you can now purchase a pre-addressed shipping label from Give Back Box! Give Back Box is a non-profit that allows our incredible supporters and donors to purchase a pre-addressed shipping label for a flat fee. Packages must be under 70lbs.
