Many homes on Pine Ridge rely on wood burning stoves as their sole source of heat and cooking fuel during below-zero winters. One Spirit hires Lakota workers, provides them with necessary equipment, then pays them to deliver harvested firewood to homes in need.

The calendar might say it's spring, but Mother Nature often has other plans. The howling winds, blizzards, and extreme cold of the South Dakota badlands can linger long past March 20th. And for the families living on Pine Ridge Reservation, these winters bring unimaginable challenges.
Helping Families Stay Safe and Warm
At One Spirit, we understand the urgent need to keep families on Pine Ridge safe and warm during the harsh winter months. That's why we have maintained the Wood Program since 2013. This vital initiative aims to provide fuel for the approximately 2,619 houses (out of 5,237 on the reservation) that rely on firewood as their sole heating source
