Generosity, or wačáŋtognaka, is one of the seven values of the Lakota people.  

The word Okini means to share, that is the Lakota philosophy.
The people listed on the Okini list are families who don't have the means to buy basic necessities. 

🎁 Every year, starting in November, the Holiday Okini takes place. Hundreds of Lakota kids share their holiday wishes and receive gifts thanks to you.

Selma

This elder was caring for her two grandchldren had a stroke that was caused by a blood clot and is finally home after a hospital stay and in rehab. She is staying with family while recovering with the twins The children are in really in need of clothing. and family needs hygiene articles and cleaning supplies

Jeannie

This grandmother who is in poor health had her house burn down and she had to move into a gutted trailer that needs major repairs such as windows, doors and walls. Their is no kitchen and they use an out house and have to carry water into the house. Her daughter tragically died and she was given custody of her 3 grand children. She is also caring for her 18 year old daughter who is bed ridden.

A single Mom raising her children alone -- has two children at home - the rest havee graduated High school and are starting the next chapter of their lives. The last two need help with school clothes and supplies

How do I donate to the list?

The Okini List gives information on the size of the family, the members living in the home, ages & genders. It also provides specific information about needs such as clothing, household supplies, food, hygiene articles.

To sponsor families on the Okini Lists: 

  1. Find the specific families and individuals you'd like to support in the requests listed below. 

  2. Draft an email with the following information: Head of Family, items you'd like to donate, and any questions you may have.

  3. Send your pledge to our Okini List manager, Barbara: 
    bspeer@nativeprogress.org​​
  4. Once your pledge is confirmed, we'll forward you the family's mailing address.


📦 You can either mail the items you'd like to donate yourself, or order them on a US e-commerce website of your choosing.
