Lakota Empowerment Group
Many people on Pine Ridge Reservation are living in houses in disrepair with grave problems ranging from non-existent winterization to busted plumbing, holes in roofs, and some even without running water and/or electricity. Most who live in these houses cannot afford to pay for repairs, and those who can, struggle to find someone skilled and qualified to do the work.

We worked in partnership with Lakotans to create the Lakota Empowerment Group (LEG) to improve housing on the Reservation while teaching vital skills to a new generation. LEG helps young adults learn valuable skills and those in need get crucial repairs to their homes.

Help Us Train the Next Generation of Tradespeople
The Lakota Empowerment Group consists of several master tradesmen and their students. They teach several of the building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and concrete. Students benefit from working to both learn and earn. Along the way, they get to work on buildings on the reservation, improving them for residents on the reservation. When they graduate, they'll be able to continue providing these vital services in the community as practicing tradespeople.

"I'm honored to be a part of the Lakota Empowerment Group.
This opportunity here on the ridge—it's a great thing."

The Lakota Empowerment Group is one of our most requested programs on the reservation—a reflection of just how necessary its services are. If improving housing on the reservation, creating jobs, or passing down the trade skills to a new generation are important to you, please consider making a donation to support their vital work.
